Mt Panghilao, Danao City, Cebu | March 22, 2026
Thanks to Google Maps and some kind locals, we eventually found our way at the foot of our next hiking trail - Danao's Mt Panghilao. While it was just my third trail, the company of my more experienced co-workers gave me a sense of security.
I had no agenda other than to just experience a new place - to defamiliarize. I felt the ground beneath me. The leaves made a crackle with each step and it was music to the ears. The sky was blue and clear. The shade of the trees sheltered us from the roaring sun. I held on to some rocks for support on our way up. Speaking of support, my colleagues reminded me to bend my knees and trust my hiking shoes. I screamed and squealed each time I tripped or was about to but laughed my ass right after - that was me acknowledging my fear without letting it dissuade me from moving forward.
As we reached the peak, we helped ourselves with the food - eggs and salad - that two of my colleagues, Rhiza and Dawn, thoughtfully prepared for everybody. As we gradually filled our bellies, we let our eyes wander at the scenery. It was mesmerizing. It was marvelous. It was fucking beautiful.
P.S. I think I know what to bring next time: hiking gloves.
